Clean Transport Zone in Kraków
Clean Transport Zone in Kraków – Information for Drivers
If you are planning to arrive in Kraków by car, please note that the city operates a Clean Transport Zone (CTZ). The regulations are designed to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in the city center. Access to certain areas of Kraków depends on the vehicle's emission standards.
Clean Transport Zone area
The Clean Transport Zone covers a large part of Kraków, mainly within the city's 4th ring road. Entry into this area is regulated and monitored automatically based on vehicle registration numbers.
Vehicle emission standards
Vehicles that meet the required emission standards are allowed to enter the zone without additional charges. In general:
-
Petrol vehicles (including LPG) must meet at least Euro 4 emission standards
-
Diesel vehicles must meet at least Euro 6 emission standards
Older vehicles that do not meet these standards may be subject to entry fees or restrictions.
Entry fees for non-compliant vehicles
If your vehicle does not meet the required emission standards, entry into the Clean Transport Zone is possible after paying an official access fee. Payments and vehicle verification are handled through the City of Kraków's official system.
Vehicle status and payment can be checked here:

The system allows drivers to:
-
check whether their vehicle meets CTZ requirements,
-
verify if a fee is required,
-
pay for temporary access to the Clean Transport Zone.
Exemptions
Certain vehicles may be exempt from CTZ rules, including vehicles registered to Kraków residents or specific special cases. Exemptions must be registered in advance in the official CTZ system.
Important notice for visitors
Vehicle compliance is verified automatically using license plate recognition. Entering the Clean Transport Zone without meeting emission requirements or without paying the required fee may result in a financial penalty.
We strongly recommend checking your vehicle's eligibility before arriving in Kraków to avoid unnecessary charges or fines.
